Whātonga and his crew surged ahead aboard Te Wao, but without warning, a violent storm swept across the ocean. Driven far from Hawaiki, they fought through wind, waves and heavy fog for two days before finally reaching the distant shores of Rangiātea.
The race was over—but Whātonga’s greatest adventures had only just begun.
